X-Tex-Z-200 incorporates zeolite
embedded between two layers of X-Tex fabric. One of the main
problems of using ion exchange materials for removing metals and
nutrients is the premature failure caused by oil contamination of
the material. By embedding zeolite between X-Tex layers we have
resolved the problem of oil contamination by trapping the oil before
the influent makes contact with the zeolite.
There are many types of zeolites
(clinoptilolite, chabazite, phillipsite, mordenite, etc.) with
different chemical and physical characteristics. Crystal structure
and chemical composition account for much of the differences.
Particle size and density, cation selectivity, and pore size are
only some of the characteristics that can differ depending on the
zeolite in question. Variations not only occur between different
types of zeolites but also in the properties of zeolites of the same
group.
Through extensive research and
consultation with contracted scientists, The Xextex Corporation has
developed a proprietary blend that removes targeted contaminates.

TEST
A test solution was made up using the above-mentioned metals to a
concentration of approximately 10 ppm. Three layers of the X-Tex-Z-200
were cut out and placed one at a time inside a funnel. After each
layer was placed in the funnel, one liter of the test solution was
poured through the X-Tex-Z-200. The solution flowed without
restriction consecutively through the 3 combined layers of X-Tex-Z-200.
The table below summarizes the results of this
test. The sample layer named “raw” was the actual concentrations
of metals in the test solution.

The results from this test
indicate that X-Tex-Z-200 can substantially remove soluble metals
from storm water and help bring users into compliance with their
storm water regulation. Variation of X-Tex-Z-200 will be tested in
the near future to improve the efficiency for removal of metals and
nutrients. The graph below also illustrates the efficiency of X-Tex-Z-200
for removal of metals in water.
