Specification Guideline

General
The system shall be manufactured to allow for the placement of leak detection equipment. The containment shall be drainable and air testable. All components of the containment system, including pipe, fittings, leak detection equipment, containment boxes and floor drains, shall be supplied by Flo-Safe, Inc. The containment piping shall be joined by two piece hinged fittings with gasket seals, secured with stainless steel pressure bands and thermoplastic pins. The split fittings shall be reusable.

Materials
All pipe and fittings shall be clear PVC or polypropylene (PP) and supplied by the same manufacturer. Gasket material shall be EPDM and be a continuous, one-piece molded component for each half fitting. Pressure bands shall be stainless steel. No glues, epoxies, or other foreign materials shall be allowed for joining purposes.

Pipe Support
Spacing shall be determined by the manufacturer based on pipe diameters, pipe materials and operating temperatures of the product pipe. In all cases, pipes within the secondary containment pipe shall be supported at not more than 10 ft. intervals. These supports shall be designed for continuous air flow and drainage of the secondary containment in place.

Installation
The installing contractor shall install the system in accordance with the directions furnished by the manufacturer and as approved by the architect and engineer. Installation instructions and an installation video shall be provided to the installing contractor by the manufacturer prior to installation.

Testing
An air test, using test equipment supplied by the manufacturer, shall be conducted after installation. The test shall not exceed 5 psi and shall not exceed 1 hour in duration. All manufacturer's test instructions shall be followed.

Backfill
A 4 inch layer of sand or fine gravel shall be placed and tamped in the trench to provide a uniform bedding for the containment pipe. The entire trench shall be evenly backfilled with a similar material as the bedding in 6 inch compacted layers to a minimum of 6 inches above the top of the piping system. The remaining trench shall be evenly and continuously backfilled in uniform layers with suitable excavated soil.
